Portion partners with Kiesza, Luke Didlo, and MetaMoves to raise funds for amputees through motion-capture NFT sale
Some of the proceeds from Portion and Kiesza’s MetaMoves NFT collection will go toward the production of 3D-printed prosthetic limbs
Portion, the 21st-century NFT auction house and Metaverse development studio, partners with Canadian singer and performer Kiesza and 3d visual artist Luke Didlo to release the MetaMoves motion-capture NFT collection. Portion is donating a percentage from every NFT sale toward the production of 3D-printed prosthetic limbs. In a collaboration with nonprofit organization MediPrint, MetaMoves provides custom prosthetics to those recovering from amputation or living with missing limbs. All NFTs in the MetaMoves collection will be available for purchase on Portion’s platform.
MediPrint is based in Mexico, where there is an estimated 3 million amputees, most of whom have lost limbs due to medical complications or work-related injuries. In developing countries, only 5 percent of amputees have access to prosthetic devices or mobility assistance. Losing a limb can be a life-altering and traumatic experience for many. Metamoves combines the forces of technology and entertainment to promote the belief that one’s self worth is not defined by their disability.
The MetaMoves collection includes androids performing various dance moves taken from Kiesza’s latest performance on the Ellen show, which was developed with choreographer Ljuba Castot. The tokens endow the owner with full rights toward the underlying motion-capture data, which they can use to breathe life into their Metaverse avatars. NFT holders can also use the animations in other creative projects, such as a 3D video or videogame.
“I am so honored to be a part of this project,” says Kiesza. “The freedom to move is a right we should all benefit from equally. After surviving a debilitating car accident in 2017, I’m eager to join the cause in promoting movement for all. I’m happy that my collaboration with Portion is going to help us advocate and raise awareness for a health issue that affects so many communities.”
“The MetaMoves NFT collection is doing something that has never been done before,” says Jason Rosenstein, CEO of Portion. “Not only is it using motion-capture technology for NFT art, it is providing a real solution to a real problem. We couldn’t be more proud to help facilitate such a great and worthwhile cause.”
About Kiesza
Kiesza stormed onto the scene in 2014 with her impassioned hit “Hideaway”, which has since accrued over a billion streams; the accompanying one-shot video has been featured on several best-of-decade lists. Her debut studio album Sound Of A Woman saw her top charts globally and moved over a million units. Top-tier musicians soon rushed to work with her, and the rising Canadian talent soon counted herself as a feature on releases from the likes of Skrillex, Diplo, Duran Duran and Joey Bada$$, to name a few. The Canadian multi-hyphenate also has a foot in the fashion world, serving as the face of campaigns for top brands like Fendi and Maison Birks. After a life-changing car crash put her on a two-year hiatus, Kiesza returned as an independent artist, releasing her sophomore album ‘CRAVE” through her own label Zebra Spirit Tribe in 2020. The new decade marks a promising new beginning for one of the last decade’s biggest breakouts—and this time, she’s doing it her way.
