PIXELYNX x Spinnin’ Records Crowdsourced Remix Contest
PIXELYNX, the music metaverse company co-founded by Deadmau5, has teamed up with electronic music label Spinnin’ Records and DJ Joel Corry to launch a 3-week crowdsourced music remix competition. Winners will be selected by virtual artist, CYPHER – a factionalized NFT that is collectively owned by a group of 20 community members called ASTRAL, who hold voting rights to guide the direction of projects within the PIXELYNX metaverse.
The competition is centered around a remix of Ron Carroll’s classic track “Nikes” and offers aspiring DJs a chance to compete for the opportunity to have their work released on Spinnin’ Records. The competition runs from March 22, 2023, through April 7, 2023, with the winner being announced on April 14. The contest is a case study in the potential of Web3 technology to grant real autonomy and voting rights to communities through shared ownership of NFTs.
“Our goal at PIXELYNX is to facilitate the intersection of music, gaming, web3, and AI to build new opportunities for co-creation between artists and fans,” says Inder Phull, CEO of PIXELYNX. “Now, ELYNXIR community members will have a chance to leverage the power of their community to collectively decide which remix of Joel Corry’s new song will be released as an official Spinnin’ Records track, using decentralized voting mechanisms powered by web3. This first-of-its-kind initiative is a testament to the power that web3 has to give control and autonomy directly to our community, and to democratize opportunities for music creators everywhere.”
CYPHER, the virtual music artist, lives and performs in PIXELYNX’s flagship game ELYNXIR. The contest’s committee will vote on their top five favorite submissions, which will be announced on April 11. CYPHER’s group of fractional owners on the ELYNXIR platform will have the final say in selecting the winning remix. The winning track will also have an accompanying music video co-created by both the ELYNXIR community and Spinnin’ fans through a series of quests and challenges within PIXELYNX’s Discord. The final video will premiere at the International Music Summit in Ibiza, Spain, and be uploaded to the Spinnin’ Records YouTube channel.
“Nikes” sees UK tastemaker Joel Corry continue his meteoric rise to the top, building on the momentum from his game-changing 2022. Corry’s new release pairs a succulent and swaggy house beat with an undeniably contagious hook, making it prime for everything from the dancefloor to playlists and social content. Now amping up for his debut at the sun-soaked Ultra and Miami Music Week, Joel Corry continues to bring the beat, this time in the form of the bass-heavy “Nikes.”
The remix competition is part of PIXELYNX’s larger goal of facilitating the intersection of music, gaming, Web3, and AI to build new opportunities for co-creation between artists and fans. ELYNXIR community members will have a chance to leverage the power of their community to collectively decide which remix of Joel Corry’s new song will be released as an official Spinnin’ Records track, using decentralized voting mechanisms powered by Web3. This first-of-its-kind initiative is a testament to the power that Web3 has to give control and autonomy directly to communities, democratizing opportunities for music creators everywhere.
The PIXELYNX and Spinnin’ Records collaboration is an innovative approach to combining music and gaming in a Web3 metaverse. The competition provides aspiring DJs with a chance to showcase their remix skills while giving fans a say in the final selection. The use of fractional ownership of NFTs to grant voting rights to the community is a unique way of showcasing the potential of Web3 technology to give control and autonomy to communities. This initiative will set the tone for similar competitions that embrace Web3 technology to revolutionize music creation and ownership.
