The creators of CryptoPunks, Kitties, and more are back with another major announcement
Meebits are described via their registratoin that they will cover the categories of downlaodable software for viewing crypto-collectables, NFTs, and other tokens / downloadable software to trade, store, send, receive, and transmit crypto-collectables, NFTS, and more. This looks like a new marketplace, likely similar to VEVE to allow easy access via mobile to NFTs and more.
Update:
Meebits from Larvalabs are 20,000 unique 3D characters with a no fee trading marketplace, from the guys who made Cryptopunks. As of launch, 11,000 of the 20,000 have been minted and are available to purchase. You have to add ETH to your balance within the Meebits ecosystem to make a purchase. The NFT contract the governs ownership is a standard ERC-721 that works with any compatible service or exchange. Also included in the contract is a custom marketplace that supports like-kind trading of up to 100 Meebits per transaction, along with all the standard buy, bid and ask transactions.
Additionally, there are fees associated with auctions and cancellations as well as moving money to and from the wallets for the Meebits.
500 Owners at Meebits Launch.
As of the formal launch, there appear to already be over 500 Meebit owners ranging from nearly 30 meebits collected down to 1. When adding all the minted Meebits together the total is less than 1,500. We are investigating where the other 9500 may already be (not including the 9000 for future minting).
Correction:
Every CryptoPunk owner gets a free Meebit.
The reason our numbers are off is because we weren’t aware of a key mechanic. Meebits are generational, There are currently 9,999 Cryptopunks. Each Cryptopunk owner gets a free Meebit. Meaning that nearly 50% of the availability is already accounted for. If you have a cryptopunk, go get yours now!
Larvalabs knows that they are doing and this project will surely be a success. As we learn more we will update everyone about progress around the Meebits project moving forward.
