Territory And Rebel Studios Forge The Future With The Creation Of EY3K0N O/S
Territory Studio, the cross-discipline design boutique, is collaborating with Rebel Studios, the Web3 startup, on an ambitious mission to create an entirely new sub-genre of interactive entertainment, with their first product EY3K0N.
To begin building this strange new world, Rebel Studios has assembled some of the world’s most creative minds in gaming, character design, augmented reality, blockchain and token-economic design.
Territory was tasked by Rebel Studios with bringing the UX/UIU of tomorrow to a game experience played today. The goal was to convey from the very first impression, the fact that EY3K0N is something new, something different, something… OTHER. In response, Territory brought its animation, mobile interface and graphics experience to bear and the result is something unique.
Rebel Studios CEO Gavin Cunningham, explained how the collaboration between the studios came about:
“I realised almost every visual reference for what we’re trying to create had come from movies, and that the conceptual interfaces and screen graphics were all done by just one studio, so I called them up.”
“What we are setting out to do is something special that nobody has done before. To everybody else, the concept of EY3KØN was a kind of ‘out there’ idea that was weird or implausible. With Territory, it was straight into how to implement.”
“We were always leaning towards XR in terms of product, with input from our partners at QXR Studios, but Territory had started to ideate early around an operating system type interface for the website itself and that accelerated a lot of our thinking and unlocked new doors of creativity in terms of product development.”
Territory Co-Founder and Creative Director Marti Romances agrees:
“The operating system was the starting point and defined the whole experience. We also experimented with the design for user interfaces and buttons and decided to track that throughout.”
“Rebel Studios suggested adding a radio into the operating system, which really showed that they are thinking greater and from all angles.”
“Going through the minting process through the same operating system speaks volume about what the ambition for the project is.”
Enter The World Of EY3K0N
Described as a ´cross-platform interactive story experience´, EY3K0N is set in a near future world where many of today’s social and technological trends have played out: “EY3K0N is THE social media agency, driving the dominance of the world’s most powerful influencers. Its clients are presidents and pop stars, the world’s trendsetters and tastemakers”.
The EYEK0Ns, a cast of 10 characters represented by 10,000 NFTs, each have their own social profile. With a growing list of famous supporters including Paris Hilton, Steve Aoki, UK Rapper Tinie and One Direction´s Liam Payne, it looks like the lines between fantasy and reality may start to blur in this tale from the project´s lead writer, Emmy award winning Sean Stewart, perhaps not coincidentally the co-inventor of the Alternative Reality Game.
To enter the world of EY3KON, you have to unlock a device. Users have to invest themselves in the experience. As things are hidden in the operating system design, they will discover that effort and experience have real value, being asked to be proactive in this new world.
