Disney Focusing on Metaverse Strategy

Feb 15 (Reuters) – The Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) has appointed an executive to oversee its metaverse strategy, according to an email Disney Chief Executive Bob Chapek sent to staff Tuesday and seen by Reuters.

Mike White, an executive in the Media and Entertainment Distribution group, has been named to the new role of senior vice president of Next Generation Storytelling and Consumer Experiences, where he will help define how consumers experience Disney’s coming metaverse. He will work alongside Disney’s creative teams.

Reuters broke the exclusive story yesterday that Disney has picked it’s leader for the next phase of entertainment, web3, and the metaverse.  In the article Chapek is quoted as saying,

“For nearly 100 years, our company has defined and re-defined entertainment by leveraging technology to bring stories to life in deeper, more impactful ways. Today, we have an opportunity to connect those universes and create an entirely new paradigm for how audiences experience and engage with our stories.”

Disney Studios is the umbrella company for all of Walt Disney’s production companies. It includes Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and Touchstone Pictures.

Disney is one of the most famous and successful entertainment companies in the world. It is known for its movies, TV shows, theme parks, and media networks. Disney has been around for over 90 years and it has always been a leader in the industry. Disney has always had a strategy to stay ahead of the game by investing in new ideas that are more innovative than their competitors.

One of Disney’s recent investments was Hulu. Hulu is an American media company which provides streaming services on the internet. With more people preferring to watch TV shows online instead of on cable TV, Hulu became more popular than ever before with over 17 million subscribers in 2017.
