Gehena is a rising star in the NFT space. Testing the waters in OpenSea, the Argentinean artist Gehena is dropping their first animated piece and entering the mainstream via foundation. We love interviewing a myriad of artists at different stages of success and look forward to watching this star shine bright!
Thanks for the interview Gehena. Much of your art looks inspired by comic books, please tell us a bit about your background and what got you into art:
One thing you cannot live without?
I guess I’m the type of person that can adapt to almost everything. And I’m comfortable with changes. I’m not attached to things. In fact, I try to live in a minimalistic way.
Life it’s dynamic, we’re in a constant journey, so things -and people- come and go.
Who is your favorite artists (Non NFT)?
It would be Alex Toth. A true master of the craft. A genius.
Not only because his stunning artwork, but also for all the in-depth analysis and essays that he left to the comic book artist community.
Side note: Alex Toth was an American cartoonist that produced much of the pop culture phenomenon from the 50’s through the 80’s including Fantastic Four, Birdman, and Space Ghost: Coast to coast.
As we stated, your style is heavily inspired by comics, can you share a few more details?
Over these years, I’ve seen a lot of Alex Toth, Jorge Zaffino or Mike Mignola artworks, or countless times Stanley Kubrick’s and Sergio Leone’s films. I’d like to think that you may see some of this in my work.
How has your style evolved over the years?
With the years, my style matured and polished, as a reflection of oneself. I started to worrying more about the message instead the aesthetics.
What made you pursue NFT art?
I was amazed by it. Such a bullish movement. From the technological side, it solved a problem from the last couple decades. It gave to the digital medium (of all artistic disciplines) a platform in which work, distribute and -in consequence- grow. From the art point of view, was the opportunity to finally create everything you always loved to do. In my line of work, that isn’t the constant. It is freedom.
What are your other passions besides art?
I’m currently learning about economy and finance, and I enjoy that.
I’m curious man, I like to know how everything works.
My goal is to go all-in on this new path of my career. After dropping my first collection, I want to make an NFT comic book and a collectible card set.
Do you have any upcoming drops?
I’m currently focused on painting, making my debut collection.
