Based in Bogotá, Colombia, Carolina loved animé, manga and video game art as she grew up, later discovering the artwork of James Jean, Andrew Hem and Fuco Euda, who have been key influences on her career and style. She loves vinyl records and bands like Placebo, Mew and Mars Volta, and studied Visual Arts with a focus on Graphic Art in Bogotá.
Please provide any details about your background and what got you into art:
I’m a freelance illustrator, I live in Bogota, I’ve been working as a digital artist since 2011. I’m very influenced by anime, video games and japanese culture overall. My work represents the topics and events that matter most to me. I try to explain through my art what I consider important to simplify the universe in which we all live, dream, share experiences, and eventually die.
Who are your favorite artists?
My favorite artist regardless of having released an NFT or not is the incredibly talented artist James Jean. My favorite well-known artist among main-stream NFT collectors is definitely the talented Victor Mosquera.
What made you pursue NFT art?
I’ve been a digital artist for quite a long time. I’ve never thought that I was going to be able to sell a digital image as a traditional artist would on a gallery or exhibition. I was told all my life to not pursue the digital art world since it was not profitable, NFTs changed everything.
What is the one piece of NFT art you wish you had purchased but missed out on?
I’ve been getting to know so many crazy good artists these couple months that I’ve been around and let me tell you, I want everything! but if I really had to choose I would go for “Roots” from Victor Mosquera, is a piece that I really connected with. It’s still up for sale on Super rare but it’s way off my budget.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
Japan (NFTCulture comment: this is disproportionately the most common answer among NFT artists we’ve been lucky enough to interview) . I had a ticket to go and then the pandemic happened.
What are your other passions besides art?
Boxing.
How did you come up with your specific style?
By watching a lot of anime, playing a lot of games and combining that with a pencil. My style definitely is practiced by finding beauty in the the mediums I appreciate. When I find something beautiful in Anime or Video Games, I like to interpret it in my own way and create something new.
How has your style evolved over the years?
At first I used to depend a lot on the software to make effects because I thought that was what made an image cooler. Now I really just use the same brush for everything and my images are a lot simpler. Which I actually like more.
Do you make other forms of art?
I wish, but no. I’ve thought about trying different forms of art. But as they say, don’t change your style because the market is focused on a particular type of medium (Today 3d is popular with NFTs, but appreciative collectors will find all types of art valuable.) It’s just drawing for me.
What is coming in the near future?
I hope that a lot happens. I have big plans within the NFT space. Right now, I’m just trying to build my NFT portfolio little by little. I hope to bring more new things to the community. I want to be a collector myself so you can expect that to happen soon. As I sell my art, I plan on investing more and more in the community and supporting the artists I love.
If you could collaborate with one artist who would it be?
Just one!? Impossible. There are so many artists I’d love to collaborate with. Right now, I would love to do something with Defaced, Lucas Leon, Daniel Taylor, VinneArt,Ca Chou and so many others!!
