Kyle Gold 2020 NFT Artist Interview
Kyle Gold is a phenomenal artist and we are incredible fans. Their work is incredible, but be warned some of it is slightly provocative and may be NSFW! Thank you Kyle for sharing your story.
Kyle, Thanks for agreeing to this interview. Please tell us about your background and why you decided to pursue art?
I go by my display name Kylegold2020 and I am a digital artist based in the sunny Bay Area of California. I enjoy creating psychedelic and surreal artwork, often with bright and vibrant colors; and sometimes in black and white. I grew up with a lot of instability, and art was always a way for me to express myself in a healthier way. For that reason, my artwork is incredibly personal to me. In 2014 my mom passed away as a result of an abusive relationship, and I stopped doing art for quite a while after that. I eventually ended up working at a safehouse for domestic violence victims; and doing that allowed me to reconnect with myself and my art. I started doing art again casually, and had dreams of becoming a tattoo artist at some point. I studied and practiced drawing/painting a lot of traditional tattoo designs, and I think that is reflected in the style that I have today. In 2019 I injured my back, and on January 1st 2020 I became disabled and unable to work. That was when I made the transition from traditional to digital art. I was bed-bound for over a year following that; and painting with procreate on the ipad allowed me to use mediums that were not as accessible to me in their traditional forms anymore. That’s where the “2020” in my handle comes from. The first day of 2020 was the first day I lived as a disabled person.
What is your favorite thing to do on a weekend?
It’s a simple thing, but I love going out with my dog for a good walk on a sunny weekend morning.
One thing you cannot live without?
Besides my dog, definitely my iPad. It allows me new ways to continue my creativity, especially in the digital realm with NFTs.
Who is your favorite artists (Non NFT)?
I love Dali and Monet. Their art is unique, beautiful, and eye-catching. The two styles are so different, but so uniquely strong.
Who is your favorite NFT artist?
There are too many NFT artists entering the space and so many of them have so much talent. Personally, I have so many, but if I could give a top 3 it would be @Kristyglas, @TimpersHD, and @ALCrego_.
What made you pursue NFT art?
I love the idea of art and technology coming together. I am seeking financial stability, but beyond that I feel like the concept of digital ownership of art really feels like the future; and I want to be a part of it.
What is the one piece of NFT art you wish you had purchased but missed out on?
I would love to own MOU by A. L. Crego x MOU
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
I would like to go to France and visit the Louvre and Monet’s garden. There is so much rich art history there and it would be a dream for me to experience it.
Thank you for sharing a bit of your incredible story. We hope our collectors love your art as much as we do. Where can Collectors learn more about you and find your art?
